There Is More To Consider...

Good evening! The night is just starting to fall over the ocean. The wind is a moist breeze gently wafting through Grandpoppy's office window. The yellow light from the the old gooseneck lamp softly illuminates the messy stack of unfiled  papers, sitting on the corner of Grandpoppy's desk. Grandpoppy has his own special way of organizing chaos from a pile of seemingly disorganized reams of stacked paper. He has his own file system and likes it that way. I wouldn't dare disturb it. Somehow, seeing this familiar and scattered filing system, unchanged, day-after-day, is comforting.

There is beauty in the familiar and unchanged practices, that make us feel safe and secure in this ever-changing world. There is comfort in the knowledge that there are some things that do not change. There is a wonderful beauty in living long, that lets us find out what we will become over time. Long life gives us the opportunity to experience the possibilities of life and learn from our mistakes. A long life proves to us that there is more than one way to live and BE in this life. It is a gift that offers a perspective that youth does not have enough time to learn.

It is unfortunate, that even in the smallest corners of the world there are human beings, who believe that starvation, physical torture and religious fervor can permanently change the basic DNA/biology/nature of a person's sexual orientation.

In Grozny, Russia it is sadly reported by the New York Times, that it is a common practice to arrest suspected gay men and proceed to try to administer malevolent enticement to expose their consensual partners and modify their sexual orientation.

Excerpt from the New York Times article titled:

‘They Starve You. They Shock You’: Inside the Anti-Gay Pogrom in Chechnya

“Gays in Chechnya and the North Caucasus are in lethal danger,” Igor Kochetkov, director of the Russian LGBT Network, said in a telephone interview. “People whose partners are detained have every reason to believe they will be arrested. It is very hard not to name the names under torture.”

After these men are released, they escape the region to avoid any further persecution or go into hiding from their persecutors.

Why can't people understand that there are many variations in the course of nature and biology that doesn't always produce the same expected/accepted outcomes in the world of science? How do we define what is abnormal vs. normal? Is the determination and acceptance or approval based strictly upon philosophical roots? Does hard science have anything to say about it? There is a extensive article that appeared in the June 2007 publication of "Scientific American", called:

"Going Beyond X and Y" discussed by geneticist, Dr. Eric Vilain, working at the University of California, Los Angeles. He talks about the biology of sex determination, gender identity, the psychology and politics behind them.

Homosexual behavior in animals

 From Wikipedia

The observation of homosexual behavior in animals can be seen as both an argument for and against the acceptance of homosexuality in humans, and has been used especially against the claim that it is a peccatum contra naturam ("sin against nature").

Why can't nature just be "nature"? Why does it have to be a sin? It will happen, whether society approves or disapproves. Most people are removed from living close to nature. Most people have a poor understanding of nature and biological habits in nature. Why is it necessary to attach societal condemnation? What if homosexuality is... just another variant in biological and genetic science? There was a time in human history, when many people believed the world was flat. Science has since, disproved it. How do we know, that tomorrow's science won't disprove the "sin against nature" theory?
