Legend of the "Pink Moon"

Forty-eight years ago, there was a chart topping single record hit, "Bad Moon Rising", written and produced by John Fogerty in April 1969 and performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Fogerty wrote the song after watching the movie, "The Devil and Daniel Webster". He had been inspired to write the song, because of a scene in the movie involving a hurricane. Fogerty claimed the song is about the "apocalypse that was going to be visited upon us."

Tonight when me and the puppies went for our late night walk, I anxiously peered circumspect at the inky blue aether of the sky for the full "pink moon". I returned to our little abode, disappointed by the cosmos. However, Max and Millie being unaware of the astrological phenomenon and Native American Indian legend,  remained nonplussed and playful as always before bedtime. It is hazy and overcast tonight and Max and Millie are comfortably snuggled into their doggie bed, oblivious to the astrological phenomenon of the heavens unfolding above us, tonight.

In some Native American tribes, it is a legendary method of tracking the seasons by lunar calendar cycles. The April "Pink Moon", isn't actually pink. It is a beautiful creamy colored full moon. The Native American Indians named it after the wild pink ground Phlox, also known as "Moss Pink", that bloomed and grew rapidly at this time. The Farmer's Almanac evens honors this lunar event with its mention of watching for April"s,"Pink Moon".

The "Pink Moon", has a significant spiritual meaning to the Native American Indians, as well. The "Pink Moon", represents a foreshadowing of new and exciting things that could "bloom", in your life this season. To the stargazer, it could be a harbinger of blessings or one of danger.
